Rohit Sharma in the recent past has achieved iconic status as a player in the IPL and in the international format too. He has now with the performance he gave in the England series, proven himself to be a multi-format versatile player and while his struggle was immense during his earlier days, he has proven that he belongs and not only has he delivered for the better part of the decade but also dominated bowling from all corners. As a player, he perhaps doesn’t have anything left to prove right now but what he does have in him is a captain who may bring in the transition in Indian cricket from the current era to the future era.
Rohit has always been a great captain and one who has taken his side Mumbai Indians to the championship 5 times. This is a captain who knows how to keep calm in difficult situations and bring his team up from the difficult situations into winning ones. Many believe that he should be the one who should have been given the captaincy mantle once MS Dhoni went away from the role but the role was given to Virat Kohli.
In a recent turn of events, Virat has decided to do away with captaincy from the T20 Indian team and that opens doors for a debate of who they think would take the Indian cricket ahead from here. The first obvious name that comes to mind is that of the Hitman. There is a T20 world cup, a year within the T20 world cup in 2021. This is what would be the ideal opportunity for the hitman to come up with the goods and finally win an international trophy for the Indian team, something they have been left waiting for.
Rohit has a few things going for him. A chunk of the side that the Indians field these days in the T20 format is the side that has been created by him for the Mumbai Indians. The likes of Jasprit bumrah, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav have all been Mumbai Indians originals and have great chemistry with Rohit.
It must also be noted that Rohit is the only captain in the last few years who has won multi nation tournaments for India with the Asia cup and the Nidhahas trophy. Things are definitely looking upwards for captain Rohit.
So what changes can be expected when it comes to the hitman as a batsman? Does anything need to change at all? He has been in phenomenal form and he would look to do more of the same. He would feel that he would probably need to drop down in the batting order in order to give the chances to likes of Prithvi Shaw and Shubhman Gill a chance at the opening slot. We may also see a couple of changes with the pattern with which he bats and the strike rate may drop however it is evident that Rohit is a very uncomplicated person as a human being and is in a very happy phase in his life so we should not expect any drastic change in his life. We have also seen him captain the Mumbai Indians franchise and still stay the same as a person and as a swashbuckling batsman so with those involved in the Indian cricket prediction must still keep him for his strike rate in the powerplay and those big 100s are definitely going keep coming. So, Rohit Sharma 2.0 is nothing but a redefined version of Rohit Sharma who is still a menace for the bowlers.
